Off-Campus Move-Out Trash Collection
Summer 2025
TUmove lets students schedule the pick-up of their discarded household items when moving out of their off-campus housing. And, starting in summer 2025, Temple is partnering with Habitat for Humanity so that students can also schedule the collection of gently used furniture and large items for donation.
Benefits of the program
- Temple students can request their trash be picked up rather than transporting it to a disposal site themselves.
- Temple students can be good neighbors to the community by not leaving their trash on the curb for several days.
- Temple students can prevent waste and help the North Philadelphia community by donating items they no longer need but that are still in good condition.
- Collection staff will ensure that trash and items not fit for donation are disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.
Are you eligible for this program?
To participate in this program during summer 2025, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Temple student as of Spring 2025
- Live in off-campus housing within the Main Campus patrol zone
- Be moving out of your off-campus housing during the below date ranges:
- Monday, May 12 – Friday, May 23
- Monday, June 23 – Friday, June 27
- Monday, July 14 – Friday, August 15
- Be disposing of or donating eligible items:
- Appliances (refrigerators, window air conditioning units, microwaves)
- Electronics (televisions, video game consoles, cell phones, computers, monitors, printers)
- Furniture (mattresses, couches, chairs, tables, bookcases, desks, rugs)
- General household trash in trash bags (for trash pickup only)
Donate items to Habitat for Humanity
If you have furniture or appliances in good condition that you don’t plan to take with you, you can mark them for donation to Habitat for Humanity.
- When signing up for your pick-up time (see instructions below), indicate that you have one or more items to donate.
- Then, when setting out your items for collection, make sure that items to donate are separate from trash and are clearly marked for donation. You can simply tape on a piece of paper with “HABITAT” written in large letters.
Schedule a pick-up
If you meet the eligibility criteria above, you can schedule a pick-up here – summer 2025 slots are now open.
Please keep in mind the following:
- If you have roommates who are also moving out, please try to coordinate with them to have all your items collected at the same time – only one person needs to make an appointment for the household.
- Pickups will be available Monday through Friday, 8am – 3pm during the below date ranges:
- Monday, May 12 – Friday, May 23
- Monday, June 23 – Friday, June 27
- Monday, July 14 – Friday, August 15
NOTE: The latest you can make a reservation is 48 hours in advance of the moveout date. Once slots are full, you will not be able to select them, so register as soon as you can to get your preferred time.
After selecting the pick-up time, you will be asked if you are requesting a pick-up for:
1) Trash only
2) Donation to Habitat for Humanity only
3) Both trash and donation to Habitat for Humanity
- Once you’ve completed your booking, you’ll receive an email and/or text message as well as a calendar invite confirming your pick-up time.
- Take your items out to the curb no sooner than 5 p.m the day before your scheduled pick-up and no later than 7 a.m. the day of your scheduled pick-up.
- Label items that are being donated to Habitat for Humanity with a piece of paper that says “Habitat for Humanity” in bold letters.
- If you have trash and items for donation, separate them into two piles/areas on the curb.
- If you miss your time slot, you’ll need to dispose of your items yourself (see options below). If you leave the items on the curb, you risk being fined by the city and losing your security deposit.
Alternate Waste Disposal Options
TUmove collection areas will have dumpsters available at the below locations during the below date ranges:
- Monday, May 12 – Friday, May 23
- Monday, July 14 – Friday, August 8
Students can bring their waste materials to any of these locations. No registration is required.
- 1600 Block of W. Berks Street
- 1700 Block of W. Norris Street
- 1800 Block of W. Berks Street
- 1800 Block of W. Norris Street
Additionally, students can bring their waste to a City of Philadelphia sanitation center or utilize the City of Philadelphia Bulk Collection Program.
NOTE: Sanitation convenience centers may require proof that you live in Philadelphia in order to use the city service.
Donate or sell your items
Before deciding to dispose of your household items, consider donating or selling them instead – this can help others, might earn you a little extra cash, and is the more sustainable option. See above for how to donate to Habitat for Humanity, and check out this blog post for more ideas.
